Portland Timbers MLS Camp Program 2012
The MLS Portland Timbers are proud to offer a brand new and exciting camp program for soccer
players of all ages and skill levels throughout the state of Oregon and Southwest Washington.
What will prove to be the most popular soccer camps in the North-West, the Timbers Camp
program, presented by adidas is designed and led by the team’s coaching staff and players. The
Timbers adidas Soccer Camps program features an incredible 10:1 player-coach ratio and bases
all training groups upon skill level and age. Each camp is centered around age-appropriate
exercises and activities designed to develop technical excellence and build a love for the game.
The camp program is all new this year, but will retain the Timbers-original TREES program
designed to teach young players life values and life skills that are far reaching beyond the soccer
field. TEAMWORK, RESPECT, EFFORT, ENVIRONMENT and SPORTSMANSHIP are
incorporated into each camp’s curriculum.
The Portland Timbers MLS Soccer Camp program will consist of a larger variety of camps and
programs throughout the year which include a Timbers Tots Camp Program for players 5-6 years
old, a Timbers Juniors Skill-Building program for 7-9 years old, a Timbers Junior Olympic
Camp Program for players 10-13 years old and High School Prep and residential College ID
Camp programs for 14-18 years old.
Timbers Coaching Staff
The Timbers adidas Soccer Camps feature an outstanding coaching staff, led by Portland
Timbers coaches, as well as top Olympic Development Program, college and club coaches in the
region, and Timbers players from the first team and the PDL team. All camp instructors will
attend a coaching symposium directed by Timbers Youth Academy Director Mike Smith, who is
also a US Soccer National Youth License Instructor. The curriculum for the Timbers adidas
Soccer Camps is specifically designed by the Timbers coaching staff to challenge players, both
mentally and physically, in a friendly, encouraging and professional environment.
The Portland Timbers are now a Major League Soccer franchise which means we expect to
provide the best experience. At the end of every camp, all Timbers Campers are given an
evaluation of their play and given a one-on-one conversation about their evaluation with the
coach they have been assigned to for the duration of the camp. We will promote hard work
during each camp with a Timber Hard Hat award at the end of every camp.

setting, focusing on life-skills through soccer, such as sportsmanship and teamwork, through our
exclusive TREES program.

the United States and we take pride in advancing our players to the Regional and National level
of youth soccer.
The Timber Junior Olympic Camps are a combination of fast, intense training in small sided
games for field players, and intense, fundamental keeper training for future goalkeepers. Speed
of play (playing quickly with quality) and small-sided games will emphasize the proper attacking
and defensive principles to excel at each age group. Timbers staff will also incorporate the five
characteristics of our exclusive TREES program.

feature appropriate fitness, speed and agility training as well as injury prevention training and
education. The Timbers High School program will combine fast, intense training in small sided
games for field players, as well as intense, fundamental individual training for goalkeepers.
